Expanded
Polystyrene Roof Insulation
Thermal
efficiency at a low Cost
Lifoam Stryoshield Roof Insulation products begin with
a modified expanded polystyrene foam. This rigid, cellular
foamed plastic combines light weight and high strength
with exceptional thermal properties and moisture resistance.
The long term insulating performance of Lifoam Styroshield
Insulation is one of the highest in the industry. Tests
conducted by SPI, MRCA and NRCA have concluded that EPS
maintains close to 100% of its manufactured R-Value and
is very resistant to moisture.
Features and Benefits
Lightweight -
easily lifted to rooftop and adds
little additional weight
Versatile -
can be used with any roofing system,
easy to cut and shape.
Cost efficient -
best thermal efficiency of any
insulation on the market, helps
reduce HVAC operating costs and
saves energy.
Stable -
predictable, long term R-Value
Moisture Resistance
A study by the Energy Materials Testing Laboratory (EMTL)
has shown that EPS insulation installed in well-constructed
roofs does not absorb appreciable moisture, even under
conditions characteristic of prolonged, cold, damp winters.
The small amount of moisture absorbed (an average of
0.2% by weight) has little or no effect on the compressive
or flexural strength, and the EPS insulation retains
between 95% and 97% of its thermal efficiency
Though it has low water vapor transmission, EPS is not
a vapor barrier. Rather it "breathes", and
therefore needs no costly venting as do some other relatively
impermeable insulation materials which could otherwise
trap moisture within walls and roof assemblies.
Flammability
As with organic materials, products manufactured from
expandable polytyrene must be considered "combustible" when
directly exposed to fire. |

Insulation
A custom design is engineered for each tapered insulation
application. A detailed shop drawing is supplied for
architectural approval on all projects. All hip and valley
lines are at 45° angles, when possible,
so that a factory miter can be supplied (other angles
must be field cut). Special sizes are produced to reduce
field cutting. All delivered material is coded to match
plans. Assistance is available in establishing drainage
patterns for any particular project. |

or other approved thermal barriers.
-Concrete - EPS may be applied
directly to the concrete deck
Vapor Barrier - Optional
EPS - The density ranges from
1-2 lbs/ft and can be either flat or sloped
Overlayment - Required for BUR,
mechanically fastened, fully adhered
